Public schooling was not working for Emmanuel starting in second grade, so we went to homeschooling. I started homeschooling Ziedite from the very beginning. However, our problem was that they did not enjoy curriculum. They loved learning, but they did not like doing work. Finally, I (Mirdza) realized that there was such a an option as "unschooling", which was basically learning through living, so I dove into learning all about it through books and on the internet. I realized that unschooling could be the perfect method for us! We all enjoy learning the things we are passionate about. We engage in learning everyday, if we are given the chance. We learn through books, through the internet, through movies, through talking to others.... So now, the kids and I have decided to enjoy life and the peace we get from learning as we go. This is going to be a life of FREEDOM, filled with peace and joy and learning opportunities.
Socialization?? The kids have the opportunity to socialize with people of all ages by spending less time in a school environment. Ziedite is involved in gymnastics and goes to Sunday School; Emmanuel is involved in the Scouts, church youth group, youth choir and Taekwondo. Ziedite also goes out to play everyday with her friends around our condo community. They are happy kids, filled with love and learn in different ways every day.
